The statutory basis for the Austrian National Library is formed in particular by the Federal Museums Act 2002 and the Library and Museum Regulations (in German).

Nature and purpose of business and principle direction:

The business purpose of the Austrian National Library is the collection, preservation, documentation, editing and mediation of collections, which have been provided to the Austrian National Library on a permanent or temporary basis or acquired by it, taking into consideration the principles of practicality, profitability and economy. This website should make it easier for the public to access the Austrian National Library’s information and inventory.
